Gone are the days when I could eat pizza four days out of the week and still rock a size four. Silly of me to think that kind of lifestyle would last forever. The silver lining though, is that I’m wiser about the kinds of foods I’m putting into my body - not because I’m dying to get back into a size four, but more so because I want my skin to look and feel its best. I think that old adage, “you are what you eat” does hold a lot of truth, especially if you’re over the age of thirty, and you aren’t pumping iron in the gym every day. Foods that contain antioxidants, fatty acids, omega 3, vitamin D, potassium, and are gluten-free have the most benefactors for a healthy, blemish-free complexion.

Day in and day out, we hear about several benefits of incorporating ‘good fats’ in our diet. Fortunately for all of the avocado-disiacs out there, you will reap the benefits by consuming at least 1/2 cup every day. Avocado's are jam-packed with vitamins C and B5, potassium, fiber and much more, which will nourish and protect the skin from the inside out. If you have dry skin, you can count on avocados to also replenish and seal in moisture.  There are  a million different recipes on the market that contain avocado, so the good news is that you’ll never tire of them, and you can count on the best skin of your life. Quite honestly, I can’t think of another spread that’s delicious, multi-purpose and offers kick-ass skincare benefits. The chickpeas alone are enough to send your skin into a flawless frenzy, so just imagine what they can do when combined with other powerhouse ingredients. Olive oil, garlic, and lemon juice all have been scientifically proven to lower cholesterol and fight against cardiovascular disease, so what else is there to do other than whip up a fresh batch? It’s taken me a long time to get used to the taste of kale, but I’ve learned to mix it with other vegetables (beets) and ingredients that I love to reap the skincare benefits that it provides.
