BLACK GIRL MAGIC: 8 FABULOUS INFLUENCERS CHAT ALL THINGS HAIR
“Be You, Beauty. The world will adjust.” – Unknown
2 years ago when I buzzed all of my hair off, I decided that no longer would I conform to “normalcy” and let society define my definition of beauty. I mean, that’s the great thing about living in truth, right? It allows us to set our own trends and run our own race.
These 8 beauty influencers share reasons why they love their hair:
Beauty Girl: The Godmother of Brown Beauty, Patrice Yursik of Afrobella, has one of the most recognizable hairstyles in the game. The mere site of her signature ‘fro gives me every ounce of life, so you can imagine that I was surprised to find out that she has gone through a love – hate relationship with her hair. “I didn’t always love my hair. “I had to learn how to love it and how to nourish it. Now I love it because it is an expression of my individuality.”
If you’ve ever transitioned your hair from relaxed to natural, then you know it’s no easy feat. So when Tahira Wright, Co-Founder of The Cut Life mentioned that’s she about 4 months along in her journey, it’s a reminder that patience is truly a virtue. “Seeing my curls come to life is an awesome experience. I didn’t realize how soft and curly my natural hair is and I’m falling more and more in love with it each day. I’m not opposed to relaxers – but wanted a change. I love that my hair is healthy, thick, and able to handle different cuts, colors, and this current transitioning phase. I’m gaining a new appreciation for the diversity of my hair.”
Beauty and Lifestyle Blogger and creator of Gorgeous in Grey, Ty Alexander is like my spirit animal. She’s bold, unapologetically unique and vivacious – a prime example of what it means to live beautifully on your own accord. “Similar to my personality, my hair is fierce and sassy. It will go with the flow or be wild and rebellious, whenever it feels like it. I love my hair because no other girl in the world looks like me. And for that I thank God.” Let the church say amen!
When Fashion and Beauty Expert, Julie Hightowerisn’t filming for her web-series, A Better Day With Julie, you just might find her getting glammed up over at Le Calme Salon in Avalon Park. “My stylist, Candrice Hilton has mastered the art of styling, cutting, and coloring! Because of her, I feel very confident with my image and look to truly have A Better Day!”
Crystal Peters-Dyson’s passion for all things beauty-related are deeply rooted. Currently serving as the Midwest Brand Manager for AmikaHair Care, it’s quite evident that this beauty knows a thing or two about hair care and styling. “Working for hair companies allows me to explore and test new products. Being a woman with extensions allows me to explore many looks without having to jeopardize my “naturally straight texture”. My signature look is a deep side part with cascading waves, or just a ridiculously long installation. My family and friends judge me for this.”
Beauty Blogger, Christina Brown of Love Brown Sugar, is definitely a chameleon when it comes to hair care and styling. “I love my hair because it changes so much every day, every week and every month. It compliments my style, regardless of what mood I’m in. It’s absolutely beautiful.” You guys can catch Christina serving all types of fabulousness in a new beauty campaign for Dove! Ebony Magazine’s Editor-in-Chief, Kyra Kyles serves all of the natural hair goals. It’s the kind of hair that seemingly travels with a wind and smoke machine, and y’all know I love me some drama. And like most of us, Kyra’s definitely into versatility when it comes to styling. “Whether it’s a twist-out, giant bun, braids, or locs, I have so many options when it comes to my style. I especially love rocking my puff because it now proudly touches the ceiling of my car. Come through, power puff girls!” Get IT, Kyra!
Fashion and Lifestyle Blogger, Aramade Esubi of The Sassy Peach lives for healthy hair! “I love my hair so much because despite it sometimes having a mind of its own, it is so strong and it grows very fast! It can handle everything I put it through and with each passing week it just grows and grows and I can’t be mad at that! I love my hair!”
Let’s keep the conversation going, shall we? After all, our hair is our crown and glory – often imitated, but never quite duplicated (see what I did there). So today, and every day, let us celebrate our versatile, resilient and ridiculously fabulous tresses!
