4 ESSENTIAL BEAUTY TIPS FOR THE FIRST DATE
Ahhhh. Yes, girl! He finally asked you out on a date! Or, hell. It’s 2018 – maybe you asked him or her out. Either way, get IT! First dates are exciting, nerve-racking, and sometimes crazy. I mean, think about it: the anticipation alone is enough to make you lose your shit, right?! Rest assure the same rules apply, though: Be yourself. Don’t overdo it. Relax. Don’t look like you’re trying too hard…
I tell folks all the time you don’t want to step out wearing 10 lbs of makeup when you’re only rockin’ lip balm in your profile pic. And you’re not going to prom, so please don’t step out with your hair in a French roll. It is 2018, y’all – not 1995.
We all want to put our best foot forward, and I’m gonna make sure you have your makeup and hair all the way together.
Here are my top 4 tried-and-true first date hair and makeup tips:
BEAUTY TIP # 1: show more skin (the skin on your face)
I’ve been talking about the importance of taking care of your skin for a minute and some change now, so y’all get the gist. Moisturizing regularly, wearing SPF daily, and exfoliation are all of the things that I’ve told you to incorporate into your regimen to prepare for this moment. So, if you’ve been taking care of business, you won’t have to worry about slathering on the foundation, or concealer ‘cause you’re having a bad skin day. Plus, I read somewhere that folks are weird about makeup stains on their good clothing Boom. Don’t be that girl, or guy.
BEAUTY TIP # 2: BE BOLD. BE FIERCE.
Just because you’re not wearing a ton of foundation, it doesn’t mean your look has to be boring. If you’re an adventurous makeup wearer like I am, then a bold lip color, or winged eyeliner will go a long way. And contouring. Contour those cheekbones, honey. Hands down, it’s one of the best ways to enhance what you naturally have without going overboard. A little mascara and bronzer ain’t never hurt nobody.
BEAUTY TIP # 3: CHILL ON THE HAIR CARE PRODUCTS
There’s nothing worse than a fried, dyed and laid to the side ‘do. If your dinner companion is distracted by your hair during dinner, it’s a problem. You’ll instantly know this if he /she makes more eye contact atop your head, then directly at you. If you leave a greasy stain on the headrest in a cab, or any seat for that matter, it’s a problem. You guys see where I’m going with this? A fresh haircut, clean hair, and one or two of your favorite products will do. Oh! And if you’re into accessories, that’s cool too. Just save that SolGlow ish for another time. Matter fact, just don’t.
BEAUTY TIP # 4: SMILE
You’d think this would be a no-brainer, but surprisingly, some folks just don’t do it. I’m not suggesting that you get all “Cheshire Cat” on me, but at least try to look like you’re happy to be in the presence of your date. And even if you’re not having the best time of your life, being gracious won’t cost you a dime.
